Outfield Drills

WRIST THROW
  • 20 FEET
  • 5-7 REPS
  • Throwing elbow stays above the shoulder.  Flex the wrist twice before throwing.

FEET STUCK THROW
  • 30 FEET
  • 5-7 REPS
  • Loosen up the hips and shoulders.

ROCK BACK THROW
  • 60 FEET
  • 5-7 REPS
  • Feet should be perpendicular to the target.  The weight transfers from front to back.

SHUFFLE THROWS
  • 90 FEET
  • 4 LEFT, 4 RIGHT
  • Mock a fly ball back.  Be in athletic position.  Hard shuffle to gain ground and then throw.

CROW HOP THROW
  • 120 FEET
  • 7-10 REPS
  • Simulate a ground ball or fly ball.  Mock fielding the ball and make a crow hop throw.  Reach the target in the air.

LONG TOSS
  • 150 FEET
  • 10-20 THROWS
  • Hard crow hop.  Throw on a 45-degree launch.  Reach target in the air.

LONG HOP
  • 120 FEET
  • 7-10 REPS
  • Simulate fielding a ground ball or fly ball from a standstill.  Crow hop throw to target.  Long hop to target.

OPEN IT UP
  • 90 FEET
  • 4-7 REPS
  • Hard shuffle, then throw through partner's chest.
